About this deal

Once the glasshouse has been cleaned the next stage is to use a sulphur candle which is lit and releases a cloud of Sulphur into the greenhouse helping to kill any overwintering pest and disease spores. Late I know, but difficult to get across the building site into my greenhouse and the portaloo across the door didn't help, anyway I lit a sulphur candle and it would not burn. Light it and leave it burn out overnight, make sure you open the doors in the morning and leave to get air through. Caring about the welfare of animals, the range only features the finest of products for a great value.

Before using the candle, remove all plants from the greenhouse(with the exception of dormant peach trees or vines). I carefully followed the instructions, pulling the wick up 10mm out of the sulphur granules, lighting it and then beating a hasty retreat (you really don’t want a lungful of sulphur fumes). Benches, sand beds, capillary matting and rockwool – All surfaces on which plant grow can be disinfected – it is effective at reducing algal growth. Then use Green Gardeners Natural Disinfectant to clean the woodwork, aluminium and glass to remove bacterial and fungal diseases.

You take the lid off, light the wick, close the greenhouse door on your way out and leave for 12 hours. One Vitax Sulphur Candle will fumigate an average 8ft x 10ft greenhouse, and for larger greenhouses you can use more candles simultaneously.

Sulphur residue I imagine, so if using these candles you might want to leave stainless steel things outside!Battles Sulphur Candles are a convenient method of eliminating troublesome pests and spores from the greenhouse. The paper was singed round the edges, the candle had melted and formed a clump and most of the sulphur remained as it was.
